Someone claimed on my policy even though it wasn't me!

This means that as you are now paying extra, when you get the 2 extra years in say 2 years time, you can show the proof and get a refund.
But if you donot assist your insurance to prove that you were not involved you will end up being claimed on.
I have assisted them? I'll assist them in any way they ask but all they are doing at the moment is comparing facts. I've rang 4 times since I found out about the claim and spoken about what is happening but it's just such a slow process! Apparently their solicitor is getting back to them tomorrow anyway so I'll know more then."A lie gets halfway around the world before the truth has a chance to get its pants on" - Winston Churchill0 -

What a pile of nonsense the above is. Ignore.
I can understand your frustration however sometimes/all the time trying to get your own insurance co to share the same enthusiasm to get the matter sorted is difficult.
IMO there will be very good grounds to close the claim down if the details don't match so there is hopefully light at the end of the tunnel.0 -

I had a similar problem last year in that there was a claim on my policy (someone drove into me, wasn't resolved until long after my renewal; how lucky am I when it comes to renewal time!) and I got a refund once the claim had been resolved in my favour and closed down. It was a substantial refund too around £600 although they managed to get £40 admin charge off me but by then I was just glad to see the money in my account.
The problem is that this time round I'm thinking of selling my car anyway. I'm moving away for a year and could raise £1000-1500 by not having a car which I won't need when I'm away anyway. I'm certainly not renewing at the £1500 they've quoted.
What worries me is if I renew with the view of getting a refund when it's sorted, and then it doesn't get sorted and for some reason my insurance company just admits it, I've spent £1500 on something I neither need nor would never have bought had I known from the off it was going to be that much if you follow?
Also I don't know if they'll drag their feet even more if they know I'm not going to be a customer of theirs in 3 weeks time? Of course they're obliged to sort the claim out but who knows how these companies truly operate!"A lie gets halfway around the world before the truth has a chance to get its pants on" - Winston Churchill0 -
AFAIK, claims won't even know if you don't renew. You will have to harass them though because you want written proof of your two years NCD when this spurious "incident" is filed away. Also I don't know if they'll drag their feet even more if they know I'm not going to be a customer of theirs in 3 weeks time? Ok this has finally been sorted! Just thought I'd update for anyone else who has had a similar issue.
I rang today to ask whether it had been sorted (have done so every 2 weeks since it first started) and for once ended up speaking to someone with a bit of initiative. Although the claim was still open ('we're waiting for the solicitors to confirm they have the wrong person') he rang the solicitors and rang me back, good news they have admitted they have the wrong person and my NCB will be reinstated accordingly.
Only took 2 months....... but sorted now at least"A lie gets halfway around the world before the truth has a chance to get its pants on" - Winston Churchill0 -

Glad to hear it's all sorted (I remember posting on this thread right at the start). Least you can get your NCD back now!!0 -
Bssically the police will get involved as it maybe a case of fraud by the driver in durham who most likely had cloned plates. The police will check their ANPR system to figure out if that number plate travelled between sheffield and durham on that day and the few days either side of it.Most number plates are logged on the police ANPR system for 7 years i think from cameras on motorway bridges and dual carriageways mainly.0

I think the guy I spoke to said they'd found the correct insurers now so I'm guessing it was mistaken identity as opposed to fraud but I couldn't say for sure."A lie gets halfway around the world before the truth has a chance to get its pants on" - Winston Churchill0
