Yup, as said, you don't need advice on spending money on a £500 Megane do you?
It is scrap, sell it for spares or as said stick it on eBay as spares or repairs.
Then go and buy another Megane, for £2k or £3k, you can get a 04/54plate Megane with much more life in it.0 -
So why did the timing belt jump.
It's highly unlikely to happen on a properly serviced and maintained car so it sounds to me like the car wasn't maintained properly by previous owners and also may have been clocked.
On this alone I would be reluctant to spend any money on the car (let alone more than the car is worth) as something else major may go wrong once it is fixed.0 -
Hold on OP, your original post implied that the car was worth £2-3000. It isn't, nowhere near. As said, scrap.
Autoquake (I know, I know) regularly has 57 plate Meganes for about £3000-3500. Something like that will give you five good years (well as good as a Renault can be), and still be worth £1000 at the end.0 -
I believe CarShaft may have 06 plate Meganes for £8995, and they can arrange finance, in fact you are already approved on the platinum delux wonder mix finance scheme, no deposit, pay the rest over 8 years. And the silicon spray on the dashboard is inclusive. LOL.0

Actually they do have one for £5695. Without a deposit it could be mine for just £140 per month for the next FIVE YEARS:eek::rotfl:.0 -
Why buy another Megane?, buy something decent, it is a Renault at the end of the day.0

Nothing wrong with Renaults if properly serviced. My friends Clio is on 90,000 now, she's had it since 30k and nothing has gone wrong with it all. It has needed a new back box, two lots of pads, one set of discs and the usual cambelt and replacement waterpump but other than service items nothing.
In the case of this 2000 car though without a doubt it is scrap. I wouldn't spend any more than £250 repairing it.0 -
My dad last senic cam belt snapped (his owe fault) He was luckily damage wasn't too bad repair was in the £800 region. head just needed reconditioning and a belt kit.0
