Broken Gas Meter

We moved in a year ago and noticed the meter is broken when ringing to give the reading. Advised the Gas company that its broken.

So far we've received and estimated bill, and an Actual bill. The actual bill was £0, we rand the gas company again and advised the meter is broken.

The actual bill was from a meter reading not by us, so someone from the company must have come round and seeing the meter is broken. Its pretty obvious, as its on the ground type one, and the box lid is broken. Up until recently it was encased in a block of ice!

What happens now, will the gas company recharge us an estimated bill for this time that its been broken, even though we have told them, more than once?

    When you spoke to them the last time, did they have a record on your account of you having reported the meter as faulty previously? If they did not it will be hard to prove you have been reporting this.

    The fact that the box lid is broken is your responsibility (its considered part of the property) and you should have repaired it to prevent damage to the meter.

    Yes they will estimate what you have used based on your consumption history.

    As above they will estimate, so best write to them if not responding to calls. Ask them for a like for like exchange.
  • The cover was broken when we moved in. Hmm I keep think maybe it would be better to put this in writing instead of just calling. Im no the account holder so cant really do anything about it.

    First part is irrelevant, second part - get the owner to get it fixed.
