Exactly 1 year ago I purchased a baby monitor from argos for £49.99 last night it started playing up so tonight I had a look through my bank statements and found proof of purchase March 10th 2010.
Obviously Argos are now shut and if I go in tomorrow they'll no doubt say but sir its 1 day outside the 12 month guarantee, what can I do?

It might be out of guarantee but it is still covered by the Sale of Goods Act.
Remind them of that when you take it back and that any reasonable person would expect it to last for more than 12 months.0 -
Errr... go to Argos and see what they say.
The twelve month guarantee is in addition to your statutory rights.
