Travel Insurance - For DIY Holidays

Options
Hi

My partner and I are due to go to the USA for 4 nights in November. We booked our flights and hotel independently.

So we need a good travel insurance policy. I heard that the Post Office are the only insurer that covers independently booked holidays, or are there any others on the market.

TIA

Not sure where you got the info about the Post Office but we have been travelling on a family annual policy for over 6 years and in that time 99% of our holidays have been independently arranged. Have a look at the money supermarket and work out who offers the best deal for your cicumstances.

We save more money by not having the baggage covered on the travel policy, it's covered on the home policy, we don't travel with expensive luggage carrying the family jewels around so the set limits are OK for us. In 25 years of air travel I have lost one bag for 6 hours and had one bag slightly ripped, both on the same trip, I got a new bag from the airline by courier next day. I know I have been lucky but you pay over the odds for this component on most policies so think about cutting this from the policy to save ££££s.

The annual worlwide with winter sports cover policy that we buy covers independent travel by all individuals eg my teenage children can go on a skiing trip without me and are still covered. Some policies only cover the family members if the policy holder, usually a parent, are on the trip. We pay just over £100 per year and it covers 4 of us on at least 2 holidays(one long haul one Europe winter sun) and a couple of weekend breaks in Europe, per person per year, absolute bargain when travel agents in the high street are charging £40 plus per person per week.

If you just need a single trip policy for a couple under 65 check Tesco too as theirs is quite competitive and you can buy it in store. If you are likely to travel again within the year it might be worth going for an annual policy.

Also with Direct Travel, £99 online for 12 months worldwide coverage. Not had to make a claim as yet, but its nice to know that they always cough up!

i'm looking for travel insurance for a single trip for 1 adult, 1 child and found
    1stop. http://www.1stoptravelinsurance.co.uk/

They managed to beat direct travel by 34p, but since i've not heard of them before, and you recommend direct travel, then i think its worth the extra 34p, just in peace of mind! so thanks very much for the link! :)
