Car Insurance

Warning to all.
my car insurance was due for renewal so i decided to shop around, i failed to read the small print as i wanted to move to a different company which worked out cheaper, my insurance company that i am with informed me that as i had not informed them that i wanted to cancel that it would cost me the remainder of the term being 11 months plus a £75 admin fee to get out.
It stated that if i would have read the small print that it mentions that insurance is on a rolling renewal and that i should have informed them prior to my insurance running out that i did not wish to renew with them.
The game is not straight they should not be allowed to get away with this, any way i am having to pay for 12 months and get ripped of:mad:

  • Did you not get a renewal notice from them, with there price for the coming year? That would normally state that they will renew automatically or that after X date you will have no insurance.
  • Also if it is less than 14 days since the new policy started you are still in the "cooling off" period and can cancel with out incurring the charges.
  • Yes as the above post said, you get the renewal letter stating the auto renewal"

I have just cancelled mine with Hastings. The letter stated I could cancel anytime before the renewal date otherwise it auto renewed.

The cooling off period sounds a good bet to go with
You can't beat an egg.........................NO WAIT!
  • I would take a guess that it's gone past the 14 day cooling off period.

It sounds as if the OP received their renewal notice (which they admit not reading the T&C's on), and then only found out at a later date that the premium had been taken from their bank/card.
It's the "it would cost me the remainder of the term being 11 months" that makes me think this.
