Insuring Two Cars?

Hi,

I just bought a second car and got insurance on it, and the first one is now off the road, but I had a question regarding using both of them...

Now, I love my first car, and would want to switch between them when ever I fancied but I can't afford to insure both of them (£800 for me) at the same time which would rack up a good £1700 in insurance alone.

Someone mentioned to me "Multi Car Insurance?" where if you own two or more cars, all you have to do is top up the difference? Example:

£900 for my first car, £800 for my second, and all you need to pay is £100 more in difference and have a multipolicy? I've done some googling, but I'm not to good with things like this... All I could find was policies that cover more then one person, but all I want is one person per two cars...

Any advice? If there is such a thing, who is eligible? I was told that telling the insurance company only ONE vehicle would be used at a time, that they allow for this?

Thanks!

I doubt you will get such a good deal, but if you do come back and tell us.

Never heard of that exactly, but have you got your no claims mirrored on both policies? If not do investigate this. Also Admiral gives 10% off for each car you put on a multicar policy, as do a couple of others...

Nah, that's silly. Still to much to pay for... How about this instead... Transferring insurance? How hard could it be? Ring up... Give the new number plate, and viola? Once I'm done, I go home, call up and switch to my other number plate... No?

Many of the cheaper insurance companies will charge you £50 a time for the privilege.

I would be very interested to know, but also amazed, if such a discount existed (unless the premiums were excessive to start with!)

Think about the number of couples who could halve their costs if this was possible.

I would expect a discount of perhaps 10-20%, off the second car's premium, but not much more.
