Does hearing about other people's expenditure ever get you down?

You have the moral high-ground and you understand the value of money.
This woman sounds like an idiotic, wasteful and downright nasty so-and-so - and possibly a downright liar.
Bet she has astronomical debts - and as another poster said - should life deal her a nasty hand - divorce, illness, redundancy whatever - if she posted up an SOA showing £800 on groceries she'd get flamed, and quite rightly too!
Hold your head up OP - you are doing just great.
(Hope her teeth fall out with all that sugary carp she's buying!)

I bet shes putting most of that £800 on credit cards and in a few years when we are all debt free, she will be where we are now!!!!
Karma - you might have to wait a while but she will be paid back by the universe;)0 -
Even if I had £800 a month available to spend on food, I would not even think about wasting so much money when it could be put aside for a rainy day or for when the car/washing machine/TV needs replacing. I actually enjoy the challenge of seeing how far I can stretch my money each month on groceries - I try and spend less than £200 a month for 3 adults and a cat (inc toiletries etc) - it helps that I don't eat meat and the family are now happy eating meals made with lentils, spag bol, chilli, spicy bean burgers, also home made pizza/bread etc. As everything is made from scratch, I know exactly what is in what we eat, not nasty additives and not loaded with salt either.0

Hi lovey, honestly if I hear about someones lovely holiday or even new outfit I might feel a wee twinge of jealousy but SPENDING THAT AMOUNT ON FOOD IS JUST WASTEFUL AND NOTHING TO BE PROUD OF! Shame on her and her likes. My colleagues come to me for help with reducing food budgets and for tips on eating out for less. I'm proud of my MSE ways and so should you be. GRRRRRRRRRRRR!'The road to a friends house is never long'0

It will probably be jealousy as you said, that you have the skill and inclination to make food from scratch and actually think about what you are going to prepare - rather than her, who probably takes out some frozen ready meal and chucks it in the microwave or sticks on chicken dippers and chips for her children night after night.
The small amount of money she spends on food?

Well..what can I say that has not been said..£800...is just stupid to spend..and even if she has the money...tells you what kinda wasteful lady she maybe...
Rise above it...and whilst I don't know how you do it on £80..as long as its healthy and people are happy....you can hold your head up high.

I think you are the better person, and that your colleague sounds horrible

Just because someone spends more money on something that you deem is excessive you seem to think that they: -
(a) Must automatically be in debt and
(b) Be a horrible person.
You all need to grow up.0 -
Hmmm, not sure how to articulate what i want to say on this one, but you just never know, what is going on in someone else's head or life.
Right now, i'm happy with my ginger biccies and my tea, and have to enjoy, make the most, what i've got.Debt free - Is it a state of mind? a state of the Universe? or a state of the bank account?

I have to admit that I have started to develop a bit of a problem with people spending without thinking. It is not jelousy, it is irritation with the waste and silliness. Spending on quality - probably OK; spending on clutter - gets me annoyed.
But people who spend are not necessarily in debt or bad - they are just people with a different lifestyle.
