no you can get them in poundland, you could fill them with stews and soups, and i even read hotdogs :) also you could do homemade sausage rolls and pastrys

  • I'm sure you'll get a few suggestions but heres a couple of ideas:

Wraps can be bought in advance as they have good long sell by dates on them and can be wrapped like an envelope to keep your filling inside. We like tuna/sweetcorn/mayo in them again easy products to take with you.
If you have six suitable boxes (large butter/marg tubs are good size) you could take out individual pasta salads - the Jamie Oliver recipe is a good one (google jamie oliver the best pasta salad) but add anything you like.
Hope you have a wonderful time.
    Be nice to each other

  • Quiches, scotch eggs, pasta salads, sandwiches/rolls/wraps (especially if you make your own even cheaper then too). Make your own sandwich fillers like you would buy and it'll be like you've just unwrapped something pre-packed :D

Homemade biscuits/cookies, crackers and cheese ummm not sure of anything else at the moment.

Cheese butties with jam, we always have them on days out as they seem to survive not being chilled.

How about getting a backpack-style coolbag, so that you don't have to worry about things getting overheated?

We've had one for a few years now, and I can't remember how we ever did without it! It doesn't hold quite as much as a traditional coolbag, but it's a darn sight easier (and more comfortable) to carry around.

As for what to put in it, there are lots of mouthwaterig ideas already on the thread.

If you've got a family like mine, where everyone like a slightly different kind of filling, you could try having 'make your own sarnie' picnics. Basically, I take the bread, plus a selection of fillings, tomatoes, lettuce etc, and everyone creates their perfect sarnie!

It's a bit more complicated if you can't find a picnic table (but flattish rocks do the job just as well). But it cuts down on arguments, and the scenario where you are left with people who are still hungry, but won't eat any of the remaining sarnies because they contain ingredient 'x':mad:.

It also cuts down on the time you need to spend preparing your picnic/packup, as you're getting everyone else to prepare their own (and making them feel like it's fun ) :T

Surely sarnies, HM cake baked before you go and fruit will be enough for packed lunches if you're having tea out?

Tuna, pate, egg mayo , cheese or tinned corned beef will give you an economical 4 days worth, with pickle, salad, cress etc to make them more interesting.

It's supposed to be a holiday, do people really want to make so much work for themselves making and lugging round state of the art packed lunches?

    :D from a lazy mare!

    xx
