Bump !
Does anyone else have any views on the best one ? i was looking at the Infinite alarm system, but i read its mainly for professional installers and requires mains power to the alarm box ?
Any advice / help would be appreciated.0 -
I purchased one from a company called global gadgets, mine was called a defender I think, GSM wireless alarm, can text and call when triggered, system with a couple of PIR's and door sensors only cost me about £200, and it was a DIY system, so was easy for me to install. Give us a shout if you want any details on it, I have the manual for it somewhere.0

Thanks Dan, it sounds like a good system. I was looking at the Yale systems as well, but i don't know how good they are.0

No experience of the Yale systems, although definately a recognised brand name!
Do you have a link for the one you are looking at? I will give you my thoughts

waste of time.
police response times are 9/14 minutes on average.
thats if they can be bothered to come out to a house alarm call.
most house burglars are in and out within 5 minutes or so.
I wouldn't have an alarm now that didn't have the dialler facility as it means I can get home and check if the house has been broken into.
I would also prefer to have as much notice as possible if the house does get screwed and if the dogs have been let out. I would hate to find they had been out roaming for hours when I could have got home in less than 1/2 hour.If you always do what you have always done, you will always get what you always got!0 -
This is the Yale system i was looking at :-

But i have read that it is not a very good system, has anyone else had one of these ?0 -
Having looked at the Yale system, I would suggest trying to find a system that has a GSM auto dialer, not a landline one. I have always preferred to keep my alarm system independant of the phone line as it is too easy to tamper with. Saying that, the system looks ok but £200 seems quite a bit for a system with just 2 PIR's and Door sensors.0

PIRs don't pick up movement from outside, the glass is enough to stop a moving heat source being picked up by the sensor. Unless you've left the window open, that is.....People's problems with false alarms usually stem from the sensor being placed in the wrong position. Try not to place the sensors pointing towards a window. I place the sensors on the corner of the wall that the window is on so it doesn't detect movement from outside.0 -
House with no alarm = nothing worth stealing. It's a fair point. But if a burglar see's a house with a burglar alarm and a house next door with no alarm - which do you think they'll try and break into.
House with obvious security in place = something inside that is worth nicking.
Most burglars these days are smackheads, and a smackhead doesn't think straight when they are clucking for their next fix. They also know that people ignore house alarms, they also know just how slow the police are, and they also know they will have a good 5 minutes of robbing time even if someone does respond to the alarm in the first place.
Decent locks and a couple of semi-starved Rottweilers would make a better deterrent than a visible alarm IMO.Remember kids, it's the volts that jolt and the mills that kill.0
