Location of Stopcock

We are moving into a new home where the seller says the stopcock is broken and is located in the meter cupboard where the electricity meter & fuseboard are located. This is opposite the sink on the other side of the kitchen. The bungalow was built in 1963. Could this be a problem? The main stopcock is located outside the property

What do they mean by 'broken'? And are you concerned by it being broken, or by it's location?

Main factor as to if it's a problem is if the one outside is easily accessed and usable. In our house I could turn off the water at the main stopcock far far quicker than the one in the house.0

If its seized, then as long as your one outside works it shouldn't take long to replace.
The location shouldn't be a problem either. I would rather have a stopcock located at the nearest point to the mains entering the house. Also, with the amount of carp people have shoved under their kitchen sink its much easier to access if its in a meter cupboard!0 -
As long as its seized "open" and water flows, isolate in the street and fit one of these:Aquatronixjenny wrote: »If its seized, then as long as your one outside works it shouldn't take long to replace.
in an appropriate location. Ignore the old one and just leave it alone.
