Uho. just booked to Ibiza then found out spanish air traffic are striking

Where do i stand?

Just this morning i booked a holiday to Ibiza for April

Then upon telling a friend they advised me the Spanish air traffic controllers are at it again. Doh!

Surely the travel agent had a duty to make it known.

Any advice?

The travel agent doesnt need to inform you of it, maybe he or she didnt know about it

Have you booked a package or done it seperate?

My company’s ABTA numbers are P6046. MSE doesn't check my status as a Travel Agent, so you need to take my word for it. This signature is here as I follow MSE's Travel Agent Code of Conduct.

Its not Spanish Air Traffic that are striking, since the end of last year they are not allowed to (they are effectively military personnel now).

Its the airport workers. I don't think agents have a duty to inform you, as delwyn said, they may not even have known.

Of course, because that would be bad for business, to inform me i might not actually get what i'm paying for. But, yes maybe they didn't know. Would flight and hotel be classed as a package, as i booked my car hire seperate, because the transfers were extortionate.

Not everything is a conspiracy! They may just not have known? Should high street agents know of every potential industrial dispute in every airport, air traffic control centre, coach company, hotel in the world? You could take it further and ask them to assess the risk of natural disasters at your destination, and the financial stability of the airline they are booking you with? Maybe then they could give you a % factor on the odds of your holiday going off without a single hitch?

Ok, i'm being deliberately rediculous, but not everything is the job of an agent.

This very much depends if what you booked was a package with a tour operator, or just a flight & hotel that the agents found seaparately.

This just got me thinking. If you take out travel insurance today they will not pay out for any holiday which gets cancelled or postponed because of a strike which was announced before the date you took out the insurance.
So You as a traveller should:
know of every potential industrial dispute in every airport, air traffic control centre, coach company, hotel in the world?
