Renault Clio - Replacing Brake light without going to garage

Hello

My brake light has gone and I can't seem to figure out how to replace on it on my old renault clio? I've lost the manual....

Does anyone have a renault clio who knows how to remove the light covers so that I can change the bulb? I've looked inside the car and can't see where it would unscrew....

Don't really want to take it to a garage as I'm a bit poor at the moment and this should be something I can do at home...

Thanks for any help.
Dipsy x

    Hi dipsy,

You should get some help with this on the motoring board, so I'll move your thread over there.

I had a (1996) renault clio and sold it just when I had learned how to do this!

Work out which light you need to change.

    Purchase the correct bulb

    Look in the boot

Now here comes the difficult to explain bit: down in the very front corner of the boot is a black square that's screwed in, unscrew this and then yank it out (from what I remember it was rather hard work to get out and I had kittens that himself was going to break my car!)

This gets the 'lighting bank' (the bit with all the bulbs on) out, here's where you need to have remembered exactly which light needed changing.

    Unscrew the bulb and replace

Bung it all back in again

    Check it's all working ok!

Right: disclaimer, if you follow my advice and break your car, injure yourself, or it goes wrong in any way shape or form I don't take responsibility! But that should work ok!

I hope that works ok :-) Best of luck!

Another tip: don't buy the bulb from the dealer or from Halfords but from a high-street motor factor or, if there is one near you, from http://www.gsf-carparts.com or http://www.eurocarparts.com

Should then be about 30p instead of £2

my local small motor shop will change my bulbs free if i buy the bulb from them.(and smile nicely... and if they are not busy) -fot to be careful though because some will charge.

I found this at a couple of places and it was well worth it as i am naturally clumsy and the job can be fiddly. (plus you need someone to look at the light and see if it's working after you do the job)
