Could be any number of things. Is the laptop getting hot ?

    What OS
Have you installed any programs recently ?
Do you have all of your data backed up ?

I'd run the Laptop in safe mode and run a Malware scan and do a scan using your antivirus software. If they find anything then remove them as instructed by the software.

    Reboot

Run the Laptop in normal mode. in the search bar type 'msconfig', go to the 'startup' tab and untick all programs that you don't want to start up when you turn the computer on. (Ask here for advice if you aren't sure)
