where to sell swords

Being a bit of a del boy I have aquired a number of real (not replica) vintage swords and daggers. I don't want them but I haven't a clue where to sell them.

Obviously ebay is out, as is gumtree and my local small ads (both do not allow the sale of weapons) , I can't see someone running a car boot being happy to let me in with a sword, however old it is.

So where else can I try?

Specialist auction houses? Samurai and most curved swords with a blade length of 50cm are banned for resale regardless. There are some exceptions to those but it's a bit like a needle in a haystack.

Edit - a quick google of 'antique swords' gives http://www.swordsales.eu/identifications-valuations.html I obviously cannot vouch for them, but it may be a starting point.

Oh dear, I can feel I have at last found something I cannot sell, I will have to relinquish my del boy title.

    Just off to measure blades.....

I found this, which may help?
Samurai and other curved Swords - On April 6th 2008 a law came into effect banning samurai and other curved swords with a blade length of 50cm or more, there are some exceptions for registered martial artists, re-enactors and even certain genuine Japanese swords.

An amendment to this act was passed, which came into effect on the 1st of August 2008, which allows curved and samurai swords which are handmade using traditional forging/production methods to be sold without a license which you will see on the site and can buy and own without a license.

Well the one i particularly want to sell is an original Ghurka kukri sword and the blade is well under 50cms so I might try a specialist dealer.

    Thank you

Specialist Militaria auctions will sell them. I've just asked at mine & if they are antique swords they can be sold.

This kind of item definitely needs a specialist. They tend to be located in and around towns with a long military tradition, such as Portsmouth or Aldershot. I'd take a few photos (include a few close ups) and email them to a few dealers and see if their opinions and valuations tally.
