Credit Card for Purchasing

Hi guys,

we have to pay the remaining balance of our honeymoon quite soon. it is around 3k and we were thinking of putting it on the never never card and then pay it when other big outgoings have been sorted out.

So my question is if there are cards out there that you would recommend that give you cashback or rewards and that also have 0% on purchases for a period.

Many thanks in advance

I wonder why it is, that young men are always cautioned against bad girls. Anyone can handle a bad girl. It's the good girls men should be warned against.-David Niven

Not a good way to think of a credit card as that, even if you do intend paying it off sometime.
loose does not rhyme with choose but lose does and is the word you meant to write.

Have you ever had a credit card? If not then it would be hard to get a rewards card, as it is reserved for people with a good credit report. And not having a credit card will mean you have little or no credit history. Also the limit of 3k that you are wishing for is quite high and all depends on your income.
  • The term 'never never' i just used as a figure of speech NOT that it would be used to pay for something and then forget about it. Yes both of us have had credit cards in the past and still have but because it was a large amount we were gonna put on it just thought looking for a rewards card would be a good idea and 0% on purchases would take a bit of pressure off us.

Well you've got the option of rewards or interest free, really, not both.

Amex Platinum gives the best rewards, and the M&S Money card gives the best for purchases (15 months).

Unless you're planning on clearing the balance right away, the M&S money card will work out cheaper - you might get 5% cashback with the Amex Platinum, but you'll pay four times this in interest over 12 months.

I think the M&S 15 month card does give you reward points which pays you in M&S vouchers (which could be sold on ebay to exchange for cash).

I would check with the honeymoon provider that they don’t charge to pay by credit card, ive just paid mine, and was going to do the same but they charged so i chose to pay by debit card. I have just got an M&S card to use for all other wedding bills that do not charge a fee though.

  • Thanks guys and cheers carlw, never even thought of that - being charged a fee that is.

The Amex card has 6 months 0% on purchases.

So BTing the debt after 6 months (for a 1-3% fee depending on method used) could mean the Amex is actually cheaper. :D

However, there are spend conditions attached which might not suit the OP.

Oh right, fair enough, you're right. This would be especially good if OP can use AMEX for all the expenses and not be charged for the privilege by the retailers :o
