Insurance advice please

Hi there.

I'm a bit of a rookie when it comes to insurance so wanted to run a few things past some more experienced folks?

I rent and require (as part of my tenancy) tenants insurance to cover accidental damage etc. I have this currently at £7.5k but I need to take out some new insurance on:
- £5k of musical equipment (these will need covering away from the policy address)
- £2k personal jewellery (these will also need covering away from the policy address)
- I also have pet insurance.

Am I better off attempting to roll these into one (if thats possible, I don't think it will be with pet insurance?) or taking out the policies seperately for the specialist items?

Thanks.

Much more information required to see what Insurers/policies might suit you.

Suggest that it would be easier to speak to a decent local brokers (not Swintons), so they can obtain all the information they need to shop around for you.

I have a feeling that you might find it a bit frustrating shopping around yourself, as you may have particular requirements that some won't be able to cover. e.g cover for use of the musical instruments away from home, depending on usage may be an issue for some.
The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.

Sounds to me from this basic post you just need a conents policy and a pet policy. A contents policy will cover tenants liability.

Your sum insured should be to your full new for old replacement cost of everything you own. You probably should increase this a bit to cater for new purchases.

If you want cover out of the home you need personal posessions extention. A single article limit will apply here and to valuables including jewellery and possibly the musical intruments. Any items worth more than that need to be specificaly listed on the policy - you need to update the values of these every year yourself to cater for inflation.

If the musical instruments are serious look for stand alone cover - google and you will find a few. This particulalry applies if it is part of your full or part time (only or 2nd) occupation.

Watch out for letting agents trying to force their policy on you, although it might still be an ok option you seem to have a requirement for a large amount of personal posessions cover so might be better going elsewhere.
