Holiday and redundancy

Hi all
OH has been 'officially' made redundant this morning. He is on one month's notice so is redundant as of 10th April. However he has 11 days holiday to take and so they say he has to take this and finsihes with them on 25th March, whereas if he was employed until 10th April he would then be paid for the 11 days on top of his months money, effectively losing 11 days pay. They say they can make him do this as there is no work - can they?

Yes they can dictate when holidays are taken.
How long has he worked there, what was the start date
to check notice and redundancy0 -
He's been there 4 and a half years (started September 2006) and they are only paying statutory redundancy so it's going to be a tight few months
. The extra couple of weeks money would have just eased it a little bit more.
They are not strictly following procedure though (afaik) as they didn't have a letter today but said they'd 'put it in the post next week'. His comment was that if they change anything said at todays meeting in the letter he than has no comeback. It's all such a mess, not helped by an incompetant HR manager :mad:0 -
I believe that, as they are the conditions that have been put in place then they are set and he has to take his holiday out of the time. Some companies choose to add holiday pay to the redundancy package but it depends on the company and their decisions.
I wish you well, I've been in this position and OH may still be put in this positionYou can bury a lot of troubles digging in the dirt

Call ACAS, they'll be able to tell you what the correct procedure should be and if his employers are following it or not (and more importantly, if they're not.......what can be done about it).
Both them and CAB have been great helping me out with my current situation so far even though my situation is quite complicated. You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0
