dealing with barclays/ival

hi all we have just been reading through all the comments of people that have had dealings with Ival, the insurance valuers.

we thought we would put in what is happening with us, so here goes.

Shamen my partner is disabled and unfortunately had a fall in our flat on monday and had the misfortune to knock over a vase of flowers (serves me right for being nice and buying her flowers lol) the water and plant food managed to go over our sony (crt) tv along with my HP tablet laptop and my sony vaio handheld PC. we phoned barclays and registered the claim on tuesday and were told that Ival would be in contact within 48 hours, we got a text within 45 mins with a contact number again saying they would contact us within 48 hours.
that is when i went onto our other laptop and started to look into Ival (not good reports from what i saw), so i took the bull by the horns and rang them. wow great responce good guy on the fone who took details and purchase price if all the items along with the model numbers, due to the fact that the lappy and the sony vaio were so expencive he passed us to the technical claims dept, who again were efficient once we got through.
they have arranged for a courier to collect the laptops on friday (tomorrow) and said that we would get a call from comet to arrange for an engineer to come and inspect the TV, we had the call this morning and are waiting on a call back to confirm friday....

in the mean time i have taken the HP and The vaio to a local pc repair specialist that i know who has done a report on the machines which i will be including when i send them to ival. he said "catastrophic failure of the motherboard and potential damage to other internal hardware due to liquid ingress - items beyond ecconomical repair" so will be interesting to see what ival come back with.

all we can say is so far so good and we will keep you posted

  • had a call at 2pm on the dot as promised.

25 mins of questioning, about previous addresses ect (guess they have to check to see if we have claim's in the past)

was told that they were waiting on the engineers report on the laptop and sony vaio, which should be through today, and that they had the report on the TV that it was beyond repair.

have been told to expect a call in the next 2-3 working days to discuss settlement

again so far so good lets wait and see

lets hope they don't let themselves down now they have done well upto now and i hope that things get sorted soon.

  • Update 4

looks like they are keeping things good so far, had an offer of a replacement tv (another sony) or a cash settlement, also an offer of replacement for the HP laptop (won't be in till mid april) or a cash settlement, just waiting on the offer for the sony (which was the most expensive by far)
so fingers crossed we could be all sorted by end of play today
as we have said so far so good but we will keep you posted
