What are the different types of surveys you get done before buying a house, what does each one cover, and how much do they cost? Does my mortgage company organise this or do I have to do it?

we've just put an offer in on a house and when we spoke to our mortgage company yesterday they asked us which survey we wanted, they told us there were 3 to choose from we plumped for the middle one which is supposed to be quite indepth and they quoted us around £340 pounds (i think but don't quote me on that) i also think the mortgage company contact the surveyor and then they contact you for payment and to make an appointment to look at the property you want to buy with the vendor.
the other searches like land, boundries etc are done by your solicitor i think.
not sure i've been much help most of what i've told you is based on a second hand conversation as i was listening in whilst my oh was talking to mortgage lender! but hope it helps a little and good luck with your house purchase xx0 -
Look here: http://www.ourproperty.co.uk/guides/surveys_explained.html
A basic valuation survey for the mortgage lender is around £200.
A HomeBuyer's Report is around £450.
A Structural Survey is around £700.
Prices may vary though.Everyone is entitled to my opinion!0
