Confused about rent due..?

Okay, this is going to sound a little daft but I'm having problems with depression and due to that I'm having trouble concentrating and get confused easily. A bit embarrassing so apologies in advance :embarasse

I'm going to be moving to another flat in a months time and have been at the place I'm in at the moment for just over 10 years so I can't remember what happened last time I moved.

I've paid this months rent on the 9th of this month (yesterday) so I'm assuming that this is going to cover me until the 9th April until I move to another flat..? And then my 1 months deposit and 1 months rent in advance will cover me from 9th April in my new place to the 9th May, when my next rent payment is due..?

I'm also receiving Incapacity Benefit and Housing Benefit at the moment (although I'm hoping to be well enough to get back to work later this year!) and I'm going to be receiving 2 Housing Benefit payments before I move. Do the Housing Benefit people pay a months in advance, meaning that these two payments are supposed to go towards next months rent (April-May) at my current address, so that when I fill in the Housing Benefit form for the new address the Council will see that I've been awarded Housing Benefit from April-May at my current address and they'll just pay the difference between my old rent and my new rent..?

Sorry if this all sounds really obvious but like I said I'm getting pretty confused by all this and need help sorting it all out so that I don't get caught unawares and embarrass myself when I move into the new flat. Thanks in advance for any help! :o

Rent is usually paid in advance so ,, yes, the situation would be as yoiu describe, assuming that you have given your current LL appropriate notice.

Contrarily, HB/LHA is paid in arrears, not in advance.

If your new rent is higher than what you are currently paying, have you checked how much help will be available to you when you move?

If you paid your last rent on the 9th March, this will cover you until the 8th April, not the 9th.

Ok thanks, just one more question because I'm getting confused with this in advance/in arrears thing. Does that mean that these two Housing Benefit payments are meant for the rental period from 9th February - 8th March or the 9th March - 8th April..?

The rent of my new place is going to be more expensive than my current one so I'm having to borrow some money off my Mum for my deposit and rent in advance and the Housing Benefit/LHA takes from 6-8 weeks to get processed, so I may have to borrow more money from my Mum to cover my rent from 9th April - 8th May.

If my 2 Housing Benefit payments on 21st March and 4th April are meant to cover me from 9th February to 8th March (because it's in arrears and not in advance if I understand correctly?) then I won't have to borrow as much from my Mum to cover me from 9th April - 8th May while I'm waiting for my HB/LHA to get processed.

Sorry if I sound really dim but I'm having trouble getting my head around all of this :o

snowdog - if you are uncertain about payments received from the HB/LHA office then simply phone them to clarify, and ask them to confirm in writing.
