Samsung LE40R88BD LCD - fault with retuning and power on

we have had the samsung LE40R88BD for approx 3-4 years and in the past week have numerous faults.

Last week when switched on we just got snow picture and no soundon all analogue channels. After about 30 secs it would switch itself off and turn itself back on and we would have the channels back.

This week it has started off with the snowy picture on turning on but then nothing it just stays on the snowy picture. This is only on analogue and an auto tune, tunes in all the channels correctly.

Then yesterday and today it takes about 20 mins for thse tv to actually come on. It keeps clicking when you press power button and nothing happens. Its like its trying to come on but cant.

Is this a major problem? would it be easier to buy a new set? and if so which one, would like 40" and a decent make for maximum budget of £500

Many Thanks in advance xxx

from experience most lcd's are one circuit board inside. Its often more expensive to replace the board than to buy a new one

It certainly sounds like it is on the way out but i'm not an expert on TV faults so maybe get a second opinion from an electrician who won't charge to have a look.

I have heard excellent things about THIS tv. :)

    I'm sure it's good - I have a similar Samsung myself.

But one thing to note: AFAIK it's an HD TV but the Freeview receiver in it does not support Freeview HD. Maybe not a big deal at the moment with few channels currently, but if you can hold off for a while I expect that they will soon all incorporate Freeview HD without you having to pay a premium for it.

thanks for the advice. have started to look around for a new lcd tv. We will take our time, whilst we can still eventually get a digital picture on the samsung we have. If it blows up suddenly we will have to speed up our search lol.

well the search has been speeded up. daughter turned on the tv this afternoon and nothing but a white screen. you can see a faint outline of a picture behind the white. but nothing works at all.

so any advice on the new best tv sub £500?
