Hi all,

I have a LG 42PJ650 and have just purchased a LG HB405SU system which came with very few leads.

Looks like I might have to purchase optical & HDMI lead (Already have phono) but what are they for? Do I NEED them and would I benefit from having them.

Also does anyone know if the Blueray system (Above) will record TV? It has USB and I was hoping that If I connected a USB powered 20Gb Caddy that this would replace my DVD recorder which, because of LG's brilliant designers, the remote control works on the same frequency as the blue ray box, so is now rendered practically useless.

My ageing sky box is NON HD and not sky plus as I only use it for the free-to-air channels (£20.00 card), so this will need to connect thru scart.

You need an HDMI cable to connect the Blu ray player to the TV, how were you expecting it to connect?

You may want to use an optical audio connection from the TV to the Home cinema unit to improve the sound from the TV.

Don't know what the capability of the USB recording facility is you'll have to read the destructions.
That gum you like is coming back in style.

you will need one HDMI cable to connect the bluray player to the TV (if you dont use an HDMI cable then you cannot use the bluray player to play blurays in HD).

you will only need an optical cable if the bluray player has an optical IN connection, you can use this port to connect the sky box to the 5.1 bit of the bluray player so you get surround sound when you watch TV from the sky box.

as for the recording of the tv on the bluray box, then no it is not possible.

There is no optical out on the Sky box - just phono & scart.

The BluRay system is a 5.1 Surround as well as a player plus it can stream from the net.

If the Skybox is connected via scart to the Pj650 and I connected optical from there to the bluray (surround sound system) would I still get true 5.1 Dolby?

in that case you only need an HDMI cable to connect the bluray player to the TV, connect the sky box to the TV using scart, (you can connect the phono out of the sky box to the bluray player for sound to come out of the 5.1 system but the sound itself wouldnt be in 5.1, just you would be using the better speakers of the 5.1 system as opposed to the tvs built in ones).

though you say you have a DVD player/recorder, if that has an optical out you can use that to have 5.1 if you watch a DVD from that (though I doubt you would as you would just use the bluray player to watch a DVD).

ps as far as HDMI cables go they are all the same as it is a digital connection so any old £2 HDMI cable will perform aswell as a £50 ripoff cable.
