Best hospital in NW for gynaecology?

Not sure if this is the right place to ask but can't find any other online forums with this kind of topic.

I'm being referred to a consultant for suspected fibroids and wondered if anyone knows which hospitals in the north west are the best for this.

My nearest one it Royal Preston Hospital, but I think St Mary's in Manchester (where my family live, so easy to get to) is a specialist in fertility, gynaecology etc.

Does anyone have experience of the gynae services at either or these hospitals or any others in the north west?

Any advice would be appreciated.

I would immediately have said St Marys Manchester, but have a look on here too

Do you get a choice? I'm currently having gynae treatment and was just referred to my local hospital.

If you do get a choice then definitely St Mary's

I demanded a choice! ;) All GPs are supposed to offer you different options - see http://www.nhs.uk/choiceintheNHS/Yourchoices/hospitalchoice/Pages/Choosingahospital.aspx

In the end the waiting list at St Mary's was pretty long so I decided to go local. But instead of the NHS hospital I've opted for a private hospital with an NHS consultant. Figure that if I do need surgery I might as well be somewhere with free parking, a private room, ensuite and a nice menu! And with it being NHS I don't have to pay private fees.

Think, though, that if I need anything more specialised doing I will ask for a consultant-to-consulant transfer to St Mary's.

    Thanks for everyone's help.
  • I was in St Mary's a couple of years ago when I was referred to Prof. Kitchener. They are certainly well recommended.
