IVA due to gambling
Options
Hi again,
you might have seen some of my other posts. My debt is due to gambling which is a separate issue, (now nearly 6 weeks clean). I was wondering if anyone else has experience of an IVA due to gambling and if creditors take a different view on this when looking at an IVA proposal?
many thanks
dan

To be honest, no, it shouldn't make a difference.
Your IP will want to see bank statements showing zero transactions to betting firms. How many bank statements they will want is up to the individual IP - some will go for three months, some will be satisfied with one month. The creditors will be relying on the IP to make sure you don't fall off the wagon.
As for creditors' attitudes to gamblers' IVAs, as long as you aren't still gambling (and preferably if you can tell them you're getting help throgh someone like Gamblers Anonymous) they will be fine. Creditors in general do not have morals regarding the debt you have; they don't waste time asking why you did x, y or z thing with their cash. They just want to understand why you're in financial trouble, and they will want to know what has changed to make sure that what happened before won't happen again. That's all.0 -
Have you already applied for the IVA? The company you choose should advise you on this if you ask them - alternatively ring CCCS anonymously and ask the question.Just completed my one-time IVA0
