New tattoo

I finally got a new tattoo done today, I felt I wanted one as a permanant reminder/record of all I have been through in the last 18mths or so.
When I had my others done I was told to use cream - Savlon in one case, 'Tattoo Goo' in the other - to help them heal. This time I've been told I don't need to use anything. I just wondered if this was the current norm please, or do other tattooists still recommend using a cream? Its quite fine writing, so a scab could spoil it quite easily. Thanks.

I know its different, but would you put cream on a cut? The body will naturally heal itself on its own perfectly fine without a cream. A moisturiser may do something, i'm not sure!0

best thing is bepanthen cream, http://www.boots.com/en/Bepanthen-Ointment-30g_10317/, Ive just had number 4 done - the last 2 tattooists have advised using this cream and they've both healed lovelyBow Ties ARE cool "Just because you are offended, doesnt mean you are right" Ricky Gervais0

Different tattooists recommend different things
When I got mine, I was told to use some sort of baby cream - can't remember the name anymore, it was a few years ago.. Cream certainly helps with the itching when it heals!
If you don't use the cream, the scab will form. As long as you don't pick it, it will probably heal just as well - just a different method.
I would probably use the cream anyway, assuming the older tattoos healed well using cream. A bit different than tattos, but I got a few piercings as well, have been recommended a few different methods of healing them by different people who have done them, I am just sticking with the one which works best for me and ignoring anything newI am sure other methods are working better than the one I like for other people though, it's quite personal thing and depends from your body

I was told to use piles (preparation H) cream, which I did and neither tattoo scabbed over.Tank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...0

I third Bepanthen, my daughter used it after having a very delicate tattoo done & it healed beautifully
it's baby cream so is probably the same one justAnotherGirl used0 -
You do need to use a cream. As the tattoo heals the skin dries out and turns into a scab, when these scabs fall off they pull the ink out which means more touch ups will be needed to fill all these bits back in. Savlon is a no no as the anti bacterial elements are too harsh. You just need a moisturiser really like E45 although I find Bepanthen makes it less itchy.Married 30/08/14 :heartpuls0

I had mine about 12 years ago and I don't think Bepanthen was available then, so maybe that is what they suggest these days.
I would use something though, the creams act as a barrier (that's why the suggest barrier creams!) to protect the tattoo while it heals.Tank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...0 -
Thanks everyone, I've found some Bepanthen in the little boys room so will use that:D So happy with the tat, well worth the wait:T0
