Won't a photo shop develop them for you? Sorry if I'm wrong!

Depending on how many you wish to develop, there is a gadget costing about £60, that will transfer both any size negatives and slides onto your laptop/computer where you can do a bit of photographic work on them yourself, prior to printing. That way, whilst many of your negs may look ok, time plays havoc with them, hence removing spots/marks/creases etc is comparatively simple. I bought one of these things from Maplins, but since then I've seen them cheaper at Aldi/Lidl.

Yes they're not perfect and yes it's time consuming, but if you have hundreds of negs as most people have, it is one way of passing off a cold wet day.

Ask at your local photographic shop, or consult a local photography club, assuming you want them printed by conventional darkroom method onto photographic paper, not inkjet paper....

Do it yourself if you have a digital camera with close focussing.

On a nice overcast, but brightish day, put a sheet of plain white paper on the outside of a clean window (there is a reason for this), put your negatives on the inside of the window, use masking tape to tack the edges to the glass, then use your camera in closeup/macro mode and take a picture of them.

After you transfer them into the computer most photo packages allow you to reverse the picture, so your negative becomes a positive, save it with a new name, print it.

You can also do this with 35mm slides, but of course do not reverse the colour!

With care you can get excellent quality as your camera will probably have a better resolution than most simple gadgets that are available.

It will just cost you a bit of time, but cost is virtually free and it is good fun to experiment.

Everyone seems to be assuming the OP either wants to convert the negatives to digital, or that he/she has a digital camera - neither of which I think are true.

I second Jessops .They at least seem to know what they are talking about when we have taken negs in to be printed.

You need a scanner that will copy negatives ... either a friend or photographic dealer / enthusiast. Convert them to digital.
Max Spielmen (example) will print out digital photographs like any other photographs, so you don't need to use a home printer, AND they are far more durable than home printed photographs.
  • i know some photo shops has a gadget for it.

It would be a lot cheaper to buy a negative/slide scanner (Epson V500 maybe for around £100), because a decent macro lens, along with a very good tripod, and a top range digital camera will set you back well over £1000.
If you have negatives, then simply take them along to any decent photo shop, Boots, Tesco, Asda and get them to print up the negatives.
