Help Xbox360 issue...before i kill my teenage son!!!

Hope one of you can help.
Son had sencond hand xbox a few weeks ago...set up a free months live on it no problems.
Everything been great..today he has come home and it wouldnt let him conect...we though at first live had run out but then it said he needed to restore his gamertag...which he has done.
He then conect via live to Fifa 11 and he has lost all his Ultimate team and saves, plus he had £8.99 worth of points the other night for some add on and thats not there either??
Has he lost it all.....i have no idea as this is the first time we had xbox and am used to dealing with playstation network.
Hope someone can help hes proper sulking that hes lost 3 weeks worth of `work`!!!!!;)lol

Just to add..he hasnt signed in anywhere else or on friends xboxes ect.

Not sure why he had to recover his gamertag. That's usually something that happens if you go play on another Xbox and want your account.

Is he / are you sure that's he's recovered the correct account, as it sounds like he hasn't?

Did he / you set up a brand new e-mail account when you set up the Live account or was it an existing account?

Have you tried logging with the account at Xbox.com?

Edit - Have you had a look at the memory on the Xbox to see what accounts and save games show?
