Non Fault Insurance Claim

I recently moved my insurance to Yes! I had an accident on Monday and after a bit of negotiating the other party has accepted full responsibility.

I have been speaking with the other insurance company (admiral) and they have mad me 2 offers on the car - This is without looking at it.

Offer One - Cash In Lieu - £1240 - I keep the car, it is not given a catagory no, my insurance is not effected and I do not declare a "Claim" if asked in the future. They originally offered £1040

Offer Two - £1975 - The car is declared total loss and taken away.

I paid £1400 for the car just under 12 months ago.

Will I have any problems if I go for the first option and tell my insurance company to cancel the claim? They tell me the car will not be given a catagory 2 classification and would still pass a HPI check.

Is this right?

From what you say, then your own insurer is already aware of this incident, so it will be on the CUE database.

And they cannot just "wipe away" this incident as if it never happened!
  • Hi, firstly I would not take it at face value if the offer is not in writting. Insurance like to make you stop working with claim handler/solicitors, and then say "do what you like were not paying you". I have even had a letter from a insurance company saying that my claim will be dealt with and they still wanted to mess about. It was harder to get someone to do the work because the insurance company in my senario kept saying that a previous solicitor is acting.

So beware and dont take offer unless you have it in writting. better still tell your claim handlers to request a offer or put forward the offer, remember your not suppose to contact the other side direct as you have a claim handler.

    Hope this helps

I used to work for Admiral and was an outbound handler (much like the one you were contacted by)

The parts highlighted in red aren't strictly true. Your insurance would be affected if you have a claim because its rated on, however, your no claims bonus wouldn't be affected as the claim is closed down. You have to declare any incident you have. The part about keeping the car and it not being given a salvage category (A-D) is correct however.

You can also, do exactly as you please so please ignore the above post. If you want to settle direct with the third party insurer (admiral), thats your choice as guess what... its your claim :)! Admiral however are quite pro-active in trying to settle third party claims and if they contact you accepting liability and offer to pay for your vehicle, chances are... you'll have the money the same day by bank transfer or within a few days by cheque. A letter would also be attached regardless of how your paid confirming how the claim has been settled.

Hope it gets sorted for ya.
