Installing Epson scanner on Dell PC

I have a Dell P4 PC which is 18 months old. I bought an Epson Perfection 2400 scanner at the same time but didn't get around to installing until now.
There are 3 CDs but they all seem to do the same thing in different languages. I tried using 2 in case there was someting new on one but it uninstalled anything previously installed. The instructions said install the software then unpack scanner etc.
I connected the cables as shown but I have two problems
1 The 'Add New Hardware ' wizard clicks on and cannot find the device.
2 There is a message saying a Hi Speed USB device has been connected to non Hi Speed hub. Further message says I need a Hi Speed USB Controller which is not installed on my PC.
What is this and where do I get it and is it necessary? And how do I complete the installation through the 'Add New Hardware' wizard.
I'm comfortable with computers but not with this anything that requires opening the box.
Than you.

I have now sorted this problem thanks to telephone support from Epson over and beyond the call of duty. Turns out I had out of date drivers and a European model rather than a UK one. (Naughty Dell for bundling the wrong model)
Lesson learned is that if I buy something I should check it straightaway and not leave it for 18 months!

aah.. here's a tip..
before you install anything go to the site of the manufacturer and download the new drivers.. they update them pretty often (because they find loads of mistakes) and the ones on the cd are never up to date..The epson site is very very good for finding drivers too
