Due Redundancy??

My partner worked for a business since August 2005. The company was taken over by new owners last December, 2010. The new owners retained the businesses name, but it became a limited company the same month.
The business closed last weekend, leaving my partner and 3 others out of work. What I would like to know is is she entitled to any form of redundancy payment or compensation after working for the business for almost 6 years, even though it had new owners for the past 3 months? Also, during the past 3 months, despite repeated requests, she wasn't given a written contract?

Hi
yes she would as the company would have bought them as a 'going concern'. She will need to apply for statutory redundancy pay as the business has closed- best place to start is to speak to the CAB or a solicitor, she should be entitled to 1/2 free legal advice.
Also as long as she has had a contract within the past then that will still stand. She would be advised to take all copies of her requests along to CAB, they may be able to suggets legal action, including failing to consult with her regarding redundancies.
Hope that helpsPay off as much as you can in 2011: £780/£8000Vouchers through surveys/shopandscan: £10/£250Ebay/Paypal target for 2011: £109/£10000 -
She will be entitled to 5 weeks redundancy pay, 5 weeks pay in lieu of notice and any accrued holiday pay.
If she cannot claim it from the company, then she claims it from a government fund.
(if she is over 41 years of age, the redundancy pay is 1.5 weeks for each full year worked)
Good luck.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0
