Hi

I currently have following situation with my home phone:

Line rental with BT, Calls with Sky and broadband with O2. Am paying £13 to BT.

I heard about this line saver offer from BT where i can pay a year in advance and save some in line rental.

1- If i were to do this, i guess i can still keep my broadband with O2?

2 - Are there any other disadvantages of moving away from Sky Talk?

Thanks

PS- I did look at other cheaper line rental providers but considering i need evening and weekend calls + 1571 service, its not too cheap to move from BT. Plus i have heard horror stories from people who are not with BT and have a fault on the line. So am hoping to stick to BT for line rental and broadband with O2.

    The opposite in fact.

At the moment, you cannot make any calls from your BT inclusive calls allowance (you have the Unlimited Weekend Plan comes as a free add-on to your line rental even though you use another company for your calls) and that means you cannot qualify for free Caller Display and/or basic 1571 (the requirement is 2 calls per month via BT). That means you will be paying £2.70/month for Caller Display and £1/month for 1571.

Being able to make calls via BT will allow you to 'qualify' for free Caller Display* and basic 1571 (but please don't use that).

    * As part of the BT Privacy At Home pack.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

thanks i have just realised that unfortunately this wont work for me.

BT offer only two packages either weekend or anytime. I need evening and weekend. having anytime doesnt benefit me at all as i end up paying the same as i am currently.

looks like i have to continue paying £13 a month to BT.....

They still offer the E&W plan - just don't advertise it fully.

It's £3/month (or free if you agree to the 12 month 'renewable' contract [which might be outlawed shortly]).

I paid a year in advance back last December. I've just received my latest bill which contains the line "£119.88 (you have already paid this)" and then proceeds to charge me the same again. 12 minutes on the line with a man who failed GCSE Maths was followed by another 32 minutes with the supervisor who was no better even when taken through the bill line by line. We haven't even got to them reneging on the Broadband contract yet by pretending it does not exist. Unluckily for them I have the correspondence.
Generally I feel direct debit is easier and I accept it is cheaper but who wants to give this sort of company carte blanche to take money and then have to fight your way past a guarantee from the bank you will get it refunded. They won't refund the wasted time. I think I'll be on the lookout for a new phone/broadband company after this

How do you get this, the website only allows you to sign up at £3/month AND 12 month renewable contract?

I presume you mean the automatic renewable bit will be outlawed - hope so, it has been a pain.
