My Car Insurance and Tripled

Hi All

I am in need of desperate advice. My car insurance is due for renewal on the 29th April and I've been doing some quotes on all the major price comparison websites.

At present, I pay around £350 per year for third party fire and theft and I have no change it my circumstances, yet all the recent quotes are coming in at over £1,000

Why is this and what can I do to help reduce this pathetic figure?

Thanks in advance

Terry, have you checked with your current insurer? Might be early but always start there. It sounds unbelievable what you are saying even though rates have increased substantially in the last year across the industry. Have you changed your vehicle or moved house or made any other changes to your policy? How old are? Any claims convictions?

You say you have no change in your circs, but are you adding another year's NCD when getting quotes?

See what a quote for fully comp with a massive voluntary excess comes out as (eg swiftcover will let you have a £1000 excess) instead of TPFT.

If it is an online company try becoming a 'New' customer......can often be cheaper than renewing....silly but true.
Maybe try ringing a local Insurance Broker ???
They seem to be becoming more competitive with their pricing these days.
    Try

  • Try a diffrent type of cover, try talking to the underwriter in each insurance company, explain to them that you are a good driver and that you never made a claim and you want to have cheap insurance.
Sometimes you may get a nice underwriter who will give you a good deal, when I had passed insurance companies were saying £2.5k. so I did this and highways insurance accepted me for £1k, I explained to the underwriter that I dont mind a higher excess but the online system doesnt do me any justice. e.g £1500 claim and I want £500 excess insurance decreases by £20. It was sorted but I was lazy and didnt send my license so they canceled it, my fault.
