Help with a claim please

This is my first ever post so apologies if I do something wrong....
I would like some help with a claim I have had to make on my household insurance for a lost hearing aid.The aid is covered no problem but the issue is that the cost for one is the same as for two and my insurers want to only pay half the price as they say I don't need to replace both. This is true as I have still got one but only paying half the cost seems wrong to me:surely it cannot be right that simply because there is a "2 for 1"offer on , the insurance company can get away with paying me 50% of the cost? This would in effect leave me in a worse position than I was before and I thought that the whole point of insurance was to restore you to the same position as before the incident took place? I suppose technically I am in a better position as I will have 3 aids rather than 2 which is perhaps their objection....... Hope this is clear and all suggestions will be gratefully received

If they can only be bought as a pair then they would have to pay for both.

Technically the other hearing aid would then belong to the Insurers as salvage but they would not want it so you would get to keep it.

I've had claims for pairs of earrings where one has been lost and insurers have to replace both.

It depends on how the items were purchased. ie as a pair or individually

Read case study 10/05 on the link below, kind of applies to your scenario if you can only 2 hearing aids at the one time.

  • Thanks for the help; all resolved now as Insurers are paying full cost as a gesture of goodwill after some negotiation!
