Direct Line Price Promise is UNTRUE

I recently got a quotation for home insurance with DirectLine. Their price was higher than my renewal, so i phoned in to take advantage of the Price Promise. On phoning up they insisted that I have to pay for a survey to be done to get a rebuild cost!!
I have never had to do this before for any insurance company. They are taking the !!!! and I think they should be reprimanded for making this promise as many customers will not pay for a survey to be done!!!!

if you have had a quote, why are then now insisting on a survey? was the quote based on a rebuild cost or blanket coverage??0

Normally standard Direct Line policies are a £1million sum insured or if you take the Plus policy it is unlimited
Is your house over £1m??0 -
These type of "price promise" offers are usually a marketing tool.
They will be hoping that people who have perhaps had insurance with the same company for a number of years will want to take advantage of this and in many cases they will be able to beat the renewal price for a new customer.
However if your renewal is competitive in the market place they might not be able to beat it and have any profit so they probably have various conditions applied to the offer. These are possibly not apparent when you initially see the "price promise" but if it means taking on your policy at a loss, I'm guessing there would be criteria to be met and most people would not bother.
But a survey on the house seems a bit OTT if they are offering £1 million buildings cover. There are websites you can use to get the rebuild value of the home - http://calculator.bcis.co.uk/ or http://www.moneysupermarket.com/home-insurance/calculator/ - but I'm guessing they would not accept this.
Hope this helps.0 -
This requirement is not made clear in their adverts. I would report DL to the advertising standards authority.0
