Faster payment to nationwide

I have tried to send a faster payment for £650.00 from First Direct to my Nationwide current account. I know that Nationwide accepts faster payments as I always do them. However this time, although the payment was made at 8am the payment hasn't arrived.

I have spoken to Nationwide who confirm it hasn't been received and there is nothing pending. Also spoken to first direct who were really unhelpful and just said the payment has left my account and was sent as a faster payment.

Any ideas what to do now and has anyone else had this issue?

Thanks

I would suggest the problem lies with First Direct. I have no problem with faster payments into NW, they appear within a few seconds from my LTSB, RBS and wife's NW accounts.

  • I know that First Direct is part of HSBC but unsure if this does apply the same..

When sending Faster Payments via HSBC some are held back just for fraud checking - they should arrive within the 2 hours though still.

Have you verified with First Direct which account number and sort code the payment was sent to? To ensure that no mistakes were made?

If so, and the details are correct, I agree with coolestoceling that the payment may be being held for fraud checking. Whilst this should complete within two hours it has been known to take a couple of days with HSBC - the same may apply to FD depending on how much of HSBCs banking system they share :o

Thanks for your replies. Just checked the Nationwide account again and the payment is now there. A full 8 hours after I sent it!

I have phoned first direct to ask why and they couldn't explain it. They're one of these banks that likes to blame the other for not processing things on time, but when I phoned Nationwide at lunchtime I was told that they didn't even have it as pending to go into the account so who knows!

Banks never disclose information about fraud checks or whether or not a specific transaction is subject to them.

Still, atleast it arrived the same day :o
