Thinking about buying in Ashford. Good idea?

If you want to be surrounded by countryside, then you'll need to look at the villages around Ashford. But then you won't get a modern house. Development in villages in the South East is very strictly controlled and new houses are almost unheard of (with a few exceptions).

You are going to have to compromise, somewhere :p

Would you consider a village within driving distance of Ashford, instead?

Hawkinge maybe? Lots of newbuild there. e.g. http://www.rightmove.co.uk/viewdetails-11669576.rsp?pa_n=1&tr_t=buy

    hhhmmmm..... practically in Folkestone :D

But I think ukbondraider wants a single new build, in the middle of the countryside - quite a tall order

Where abouts in Ashford is the house you are looking at buying?

I would personally stay clear of the Stanhope estate and houses coming off Osbourne road in Willesborough. They are generally where the trouble is, other than that there are a few bad spots but to be fair you get this everywhere.

I would recommend Ashford, good transport links, whether to London or to the coast, Designer Outlet is pretty decent for the 1st 6 months! County Square (middle of town) is being built up into a 3 storey indoor shopping centre instead of the one floor it is now, The Stour Centre (Leisure Centre) is currently being refurbished including an Olympic Sized swimming pool, flumes for the kids etc, big brand name Gym (yet to know who it is?) and extras. More and more businesses coming down to Ashford and widely expanded, one of the quickest expansions i've ever known!

Also, a lot of the eastern Europeans have been deported because there was a lot of trouble a few years back mainly with them. Now i've got nothing agaisnt them but when you go to the pub and get wacked over the head by one of them for no reason when the majority of them got deported it was like party central in Ashford!

Another thing that was a problem 2 years ago was the amount of "chavs". Now I know this is a widespread so called mickey take but generally they have died down here meaning you are safe to leave your car on the road at night! Don't remember our house having any vandalism to it, only had our car stolen once in 17 years and that was about 14 years ago, generally no one has any problems with it unless living in the two area's mentioned earlier.

Regarding the train links, the new service to London should be up and running sometime in the near future and will make it a lot easier to commute or just generally travel up there. The trains have all been scrapped and updated with new cleaner trains etc. Everything seems to be going well around here.
