in Credit cards
Hi,
Im getting married in under 2 months and although we have saved for everything and already paid out quite a lot. There is still about 10k outstanding and i was thinking of applying for a cashback credit card to use for suppliers that do not charge a fee to pay by credit card. I have a few other credit cards, one MBNA 0% which has my car loan on it, and is only 2/3 weeks old, and a Hfax Clarity which i spend about 500-800 a month on and clear each month and have had for months. I have a good credit rating and a few thousand savings in addition to wedding savings.
Can anyone recommend the best card i would say at least £6500 of this spending will be able to be paid on credit card. Should me and my girlfriend both get one to ensure we have enough credit limit?
Thanks

I don't think you'll get many answers without income info.0

Lets assume income isn’t relevant,
Is there a credit card which is best for a once off large spend, as opposed to spending 10k over the year. Id really like it simply to earn as much cashback as possible just for my wedding spending and then cancel the card.
Im guessing the answer is AMEX platinum, but the cashback info on this site it swayed more towards spending over the year so i want sure if i have missed something.0 -
AMEX Platinum does remain the best for this type of expense.Cashback Earned ¦ Nectar Points £68 ¦ Natoinwide Select £62 ¦ Aqua Reward £100 ¦ Amex Platinum £48

Sorry i have just had another though.
Would a 0% on spending card be a better idea, and then i could save the £6500 in an isa over the year (i have no idea what rates are available) and pay the minimum balance on the credit card until the end of the 0% and then clear the balance. Would this be better than a cashback credit card?

I had an amex card once, introductory 5% cashback offer on first 3 months. Mind you, there's a lot of places that don't take it (restaurants/hotels mainly), so if there's still something similar around post-crunch, then check the people you use will take it. I got rid of it as it was next to useless for me.
I now have Cap1 World card, 1%cb on everything, paid for our wedding on it last year

I guess you mean not a problem rather than not relevant. Any CC company will certainly consider it relevant.Lets assume that income isn't relevantWould a 0% on spending card be a better idea, and then i could save the £6500 in an isa over the year
Let's assume 3.3% available on an easy access cash ISA, and that you and your partner will be able to use your allowances, that the 0% on spend offr lasts 12 months, that you would have a 5% per month mimimum payment off the CC balance and that you get this minimum payment as a withdrawal from the ISA.
With all that you would have earnt something like £167 in interest on the ISA over that 12 months compared with £65 on a 1% cashback card.loose does not rhyme with choose but lose does and is the word you meant to write.0 -
AMEX is a great card if your retailers accept it.
I would have thought a lot of independent small florssist or cake shops or dress shops would not accept it.0
