Travelling around London

I am moving to Hornchurch in Essex as I have a new job near Liverpool Street Station.
I will be using public transport and was wondering what my cheapest ticket would be to get as I know there are season tickets and Oyster cards etc.
I am happy to pay annually if that is the best way.

Hornchurch is in Zone 6. A Zones 1-6 travelcard will cost £2016 per year. (http://www.tfl.gov.uk/tickets/14416.aspx)

I'm not sure which rail (not tube) station would be closest to you. If you travel from Romford an annual season ticket will cost you £1548 per year. (http://www.nxea.trainsfares.co.uk/season/requirements/st_qtt.asp?sitecode=NXEA)

However, the travelcard will give you unlimited access to pretty much all public transport within London, while the season ticket will only cover your commute. And you'd have to commute by rail only - for example, if you decided to take the District line because there was some problem with the rail line, you'd have to pay separately.
