    That is essentially the point I was making, mathematics is indeed a collective noun and cannot be pluralised, math as you point out is an abreviation of mathematics and thus in need of an apostrophe to indicate so, math's also as an abreviation of a collective cannot be pluralised and therefore the apostrophe is not used to indicate this hence my question.
