Disappointed with ebay item

Just wondering if anyone has any advice.

I bought a black patterned skirt from ebay which although used looked great in the photo. However when it arrived the black was so washed out it had faded to a greyish colour, it had obviously been worn to death and it smelt awful. Although I didnt pay much (£7.65 inc p&p) I would never wear it as its the kind of item I would feel embarassed about donating to charity :o and I wouldnt have the nerve to relist it on ebay as I feel the condition is too poor.
Should I ask for a refund? The seller does state no returns :(
Please God, help me stop spending!

  • But if it's Significantly Not As Described (SNAD) I think they have to.
Go into your ebay and find 'resolve a problem' on the 'more options' tab on the item. Should be able to start from there.

Or contact the seller and give them a chance to agree to a return.

Contact the seller and politely tell them the faults you've just listed (except perhaps the one about it smelling!). Hopefully the two of you can reach an agreement to either return or partially refund.

If not, then do as building with lego suggests.

  • I think the very first thing on the 'resolve a problem page' asks: "have you contacted your seller?", so that would be the first thing to do.

I have had an item not as expected and the seller was happy for me to return it, got themselves glowing feedback too, in the end.

Yes, give the seller a chance to refund you voluntarily. Don't open a dispute to force them to refund or to "play it safe" unless they refuse or are dragging their feet.

However, if they ask you to return it, return it tracked and keep the tracking details as if it does go to a claim, then you will be covered in case they offer you a refund on return but then don't honour the deal.
