Hi,
I run a small business from home but I am moving to a new house in the same town in a few weeks. I would like to transfer my number (as it is a memorable number) to the new address but bt won't allow this as the new address uses a different exchange. Is there any way around this? If not how do I look to getting a new memorable number from BT (I don't want to go down the 0845/0870 etc route if possible)?
Many thanks
Brian

They have an service called "Remote Call Forwarding" that ought allow you to keep the existing number - it doesn't come cheap mind - around £70 per quarter - see http://www.serviceview.bt.com/list/current/docs/Call_Charges.boo/001854.htmThere are 10 types of people in the world, those that understand binary and those that don't

But you'd better be quick because the bold type near the top of that link says:Remote Call Forwarding 10 (RCF10), Subs Controlled Transfer Equipment (SCTE) and Night Busying Service will be completely withdrawn from supply with effect from 31 December 2006.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0

Heinz - best adjust your specs - I'm not talking about those - Remote Call Forwarding 1 & 10 are obsoleted - the product I mentioned only became active on 1.11.2006There are 10 types of people in the world, those that understand binary and those that don't

Thanks for the information. I have spoken to BT and they have said that it would cost approx £115.00 per quarter with an initial setup cost of £50.00 plus additional costs being that once the call has been redirected to my new address then I would have to take an element of the charge for incoming call. Does this sound correct?
Thanks

Reading that price list it doesn't..... unless the £115/qtr includes the rental of the new line ?There are 10 types of people in the world, those that understand binary and those that don't

Do you know, I am certain BT make their websites so convoluted just to catch out those of us who suffer from senior moments on a regular basis!
OTOH, I don't hold out much hope for such useful services. The one you mention has a note indicating it'll have a short lifespan.Remote Call Forwarding, single number ('black box') - Business (not available for new supply from 20 August 1997)Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. That may be the case. I think I may just have to take the hit for a quarter or two and make all my clients aware of my change in number. Do you know of a way to get a new "memorable number" or is it just down to luck?
Thanks for your help

I'm talking about this service: "Remote Call Forwarding, single number (via TXD software) - connection charge per line + rental - Residential" (or the business equiv)
No expiry on that one - yet.....

The only thing I can say is that in the past I've mentioned my other half has trouble with numbers and needs an easy to remember one if she's ever going to be able to give it out.... usually that landed me with a few to choose from..... Once it was 38-24-36

Ok, I might try that with BT and see where it gets me. Thanks for your help.
