Hoover Washing Machine Serious Malfunction

We bought a Hoover Washing Machine at Christmas 2010 by Credit Card at Argos. In late February 2011 it broke as pieces of concrete had sheared away rending the Washer totally unusable. Argos and Hoover were contacted as to enquire what to do. Basically thet were blaming each other but Hoover said they would send an Engineer out to assess the damage with a view to making a report in order to decide what to do. They received the report and then Hoover told us that they would not replace it but send the engineers out again to mend it. Having had the machine only 2 months or less I find this bizarre as any object that malfunctions so badly after such a short period of time would indicate to me that there could be a serious fault with the model itself. This incident could have had serious implications for any person next to the machine at the time as there was such a large bang.Hoover said that because we had had the machine for more than 30 days they could not replace it but were willing to mend it:money::money:. Could anyone help me as to our next steps and action

They are within their rights to mend it as long as they put it back to its original condition. The problem might just have been a manufacturing fault - I dont think there is much to worry about. The concrete is just there to dampen vibrations in the drum - even if falls off again its not going to come flying out or anything and shouldn't be dangerous.0

Washing machines have a big block of concrete at the top. Occasionally these big blocks of concrete crack and fail - if so a bit of concrete can fall off and cause problems.
One of my washing machines did this in my student years - the engineer who came out said he'd have to get the part in because "although I carry parts for everything mechanical or electronic we don't carry round lumps of concrete".
Which I thought was reasonable.
It doesn't denote a problem with the manufacture of the machine, it couldn't have caused any issues to anyone outside the machine - even if the whole thing fell down the mismatch in weights (between the concrete block and the drum, even if full) would have just meant the drum collapsed rather than bits came flying out.
Incidentally, Hoover are right - the people you should've gone to were Argos as they sold you the machine.0
