Confused by Direct Line 45% offer

If you go to Directline.com/home it'll sometimes show a promotional picture showing that you can get up to 45% off your home insurance, and there's a link for that offer on the main MSE site.

However, whenever I try to get a contents insurance quote, no discount is shown. Does anybody know if there are any conditions to get the discount? I cant find any terms on the site and the offer only seems to exist on click-through sites, and even then it's just an image on the direct line site.

The price you are quoted includes the 45% discount.

"Premiums quoted online will include 25% introductory discount and up to 26.6% online discount."

Wow, if the quote I got is INCLUDING a 45% discount, I guess i'll be sticking with my current deal.

I was expecting it to show the quote, like:

    Quote before discount: £100
    Quote after discount: £55

    or something similar.

    Thanks for the reply.

Yes, Direct Line appears to be massively upping its premiums (I guess it is being fattened up by RBS prior to being sold off).

The fact that they are offing 45% off for new customers shows you how much more existing customers are being asked to pay!

I thought it was to pay for the £28 million just awarded to 9 directors :D
