Question about Internet properties settings (tools, internet properties)

Morning all :)
No problem with my computer this morning thanks to the help i received on here yesterday.

Just a quick question, after doing all the scans (combofix, sophos rootkit etc) this morning i noticed my internet properties ( tools, internet options) had gone back to default.

I now have them set on the following, is this ok?

IE settings
Privacy medium-high
Security medium-high

Also under advanced i have unchecked the warn if change between secure and non secure so i dont get that pop up all the time.

It also shows use SSL 3.0 as being ticked
TLS 1.0 ticked
SSL 2.0 not ticked is that right?

Is there anything else that should defaintely be ticked or unticked that i should check.

Thanks

Of course it depends on how you want your PC set up and what risks you consider are worth taking. But on the laptop that I'm currently using with a fairly standard build of XP, your settings match mine.

The smart !!!! answer is to use a safer browser such as Firefox, Chrome or Opera.

Given that you want to use IE, first ensure that you are on the latest version (7 or 8) that your OS can support. IE6 has been superseded.

I have my Security on high and Privacy as medium-high.
    Pop-up blocker and anti-phishing enabled.
Anything to do with active content disabled.

As a Firefox user my knowledge has just run out, doubtless someone else will be along in a moment to help.

It doesn't matter whether you use the IE web browser or not - the security settings should still be set appropriately. Many applications will use the MSHTML rendering engine which underpins IE.

Having said that, it would be better to use Firefox with Adblock Plus, NoScript and maybe TACO and Privacy+ add-ons. ActiveX is a big vulnerability in IE; Firefox (and many other browsers) don't use ActiveX at all.
