Cheapest reliable tablet out there?

Hello Techie people,
I was wondering if anyone knew where we could get the CHEAPEST and most reliable tablet in the market at the moment.

I need one desperately but can't afford the big name brands.

I'll be so grateful for your replies

:-)

The cheap ones tend to be poor quality or have poor features such as resistive screens. They weren't good buys when the iPad was £419 for the cheapest model. Now it is £100 cheaper they look even worse buys.

That said what is your budget and what size tablet do you want?

The archos tablets seem to review well for the prices. They do a 10" and a 7"

Many of the cheaper ones can do all the basics (email, web, video), and many support at least 720p HD. Most of the budget tablets won't have app store, although it's possible to hack them to get some kind of access. I would call things like the Scroll, CnM Touchpad II, Viewquest Slate 5 or Slate 8 a budget tablet.

Resistive screens are much better than they used to be, e.g. the CnM Touchpad II has a very responsive touch screen, only needed very light touches. Don't fret about absolutely having to have a capacative screen. Try out the tablet before buying.

Archos make a lot of decent tabs, and were doing it before Apple made it popular. They have their Archos 7 Home tablet, can be got new just over the £100 mark. The Archos 70 Internet tablet is better featured, and a 10" version sub £300.

Samsung's Galaxy tab will likely drop in price soon. Gorgeous screen.

Advent Vega is petty nice, might need a firmware update but well supported at least by the community. Screen is decent, hopefully the price will drop. There was an identical Mobii Tegra for sale in the UK for £200, but someone grabbed it while I was making up my mind.
