From my and others experiences, avoid Taxback!!0
-
I had a look to see if there were any other posts about Taxback.com, but could only find this one from last year. But I wanted to share my own experience with them.
I live in Ireland and applied for a tax refund for the tax year 2012. I was told to submit a P60 which the tax office routinely sends out to people every year. I was then informed that I could receive a particular amount and that this would be paid to me within weeks. Several months went by and I heard nothing. I kept trying to use their online chat system but messages I sent never went through, and I kept emailing staff to no avail. Eventually I was told that actually I had to submit a P21 which I did not have any knowledge of, and it required a lengthy (20 mins) expensive call to the Tax Office to find out how to go about retrieving this. Taxback.com kept emailing me asking for this form. Eventually it arrived and when I sent it, Taxback.com told me I did not need to request that form and that it was their job to do so. The form was actually 'incorrect' and it had to be requested again, eventually the correct form was processed and I was told I would receive my tax rebate within a few days.
That was a few weeks ago, and they closed my account so that I couldn't contact them again via the site and find out what was going on. The refund has finally gone through today, but in total it has been nearly 7 moths to get a refund that I was informed would be put in my bank account within weeks. I am outraged that I had to do a lot of the work for them - in regards to requesting P21, even though this was their job, and then be told that I never had to request that form in the first place!! And they still took their fee from how much I was owed after this ridiculous hassle.
in short, AVOID taxback.com!!! Next year I will organise my own refund myself, at least I won't have to pay fees to an incompetent company.0 -

Be warned, if they acted as your agent ie the money was paid to them and they then deducted their charges and sent you the balance, then this will happen next year unless you write to the tax authority, (are you in the UK? - HMRC) and tell them that these people are no longer your agents. The only thing that is constant is change.0 -
Another dodgy action by TAXBACK... I am trying to claim my superannuation from Australia. I have been asking to the company where my funds were and now turns out that Taxback claimed my Super in my name without even asking my permission, asking commissions which goes above the 20% to have the payment of the total sum. This is completely unaccettable!!! Now I don't even know IF I will ever get any money back, and just in case at which cost.
Never asked for anything, if not for taxback 3 years ago.
Also, they remove comments from their facebook page, they don't let people say anything wrong about them. Ridiculous!
Be careful people!0 -
I used taxback.com when I was on a one year working holiday visa in Ireland. They were like "it's 70 euro and its so easy!" but you still have to fill out tons of forms, and print and scan them (which costs tons if you dont have your own printer),and you send them all the forms and then they say they need another form from you, then they're like "oh there's also another 7 euro fee and another 15 euro fee" and then that's half your taxes to them and it takes like 4 months and you still are like missing 15 euro, but dont even care cause you dont want to keep emailing them.
So, when i did a year in Australia, I just went to a tax return stall in a shopping centre, and it was a 60 aus dollar flat fee, filled out one form, and got my taxes back in two weeks.
So I paid in Ireland for part of one tax year roughly 130 aus dollars and got back 96 dollars. with taxback.com
And without taxback.com I paid 60 dollars and got back 2500 dollars
(obviously I paid way more tax in australia, but you'd think that the fee would be higher for the higher tax return, unlike taxback.com, they charged more than half my taxes and dont tell you about all the fees upfront.)0 -
Hi,
Sorry to be replying in this old thread. I signed up to taxback when I got back from Oz a few years ago but in the end didn't continue with my claim. I got an email from them today saying I have two weeks to submit my tax return. I went on the live chat to ask why I would need to do that given i've been back for over 2 years and they have said that I owe the Australian tax office almost 500AUD! Obviously I don't have that to just give to them now but why would no one have contacted me about this before now. They said they told me I was in debt back in October 2012 but either they didn't or I just ignored it at the time but they are saying I won't be able to get a visa in the future etc etc and that I would need to pay it through them? This all just doesn't sound right. I dont understand why somone wouldn't be contacting me more regularly if this was the case. If I hadn't have messaged them just now i'd still be none the wiser and I only opened the email by absolute fluke as it just looked like SPAM and wasn't even marked as an email from tax back. So confused about what I should do. Can anyone help?0 -
