I have exactly the same problem, they're trying to call me everyday to have this 119 AUD $, they don't deserve it but are still clainming, they are saying they will call a collect agency as well so please tell me if I need to pay before having bigger problems...0

This is interesting, because the same thing is happening to me now. After hearing nothing from them for 4 years, they've recently contacted me to find out if I had received a cheque of $188 from the IRS, told them I wasn't sure but maybe I did. Then I got an e-mail that I owed them $120. So I told them hold up, 1st, I don't even rememer if I got the money and they should tell me which of my 2 banks it was sent to, since I've not been home in 2 years. Finally I was told that the cheque was sent directly from the IRS to me. So, I tell them that's going to be difficult for me to verify because I'm not in my home country and I can't access any of my documents (from 2006) now. So, I'm being threatened with the Credit Control Dept.
Let me add that this refund was supposedly sent about 2 years before I contacted tax back dot com.0 -

years ago (2001/2/3) not quite sure what year it was hubby used a company called taxback (I DON'T KNOW IF ITS THE SAME COMPANY )
anyway he received a letter from the tax office to go in for an interview regarding the tax claims that were made 3 tax years were involved
During the interview it turned out that it was the company they were investigating we had to go through all his paperwork and provide proof of sites where he worked , proof that he was the owner of the car ,
proof what weekends he came home , petrol receipts
it was very scary coming up against the tax man and we were very lucky hubby kept meticulous recordsI am not an expert I am self taught i have no legal training any information I post is based on my own personal experience and information gained from other web sites
If you are in any doubt please seek legal/expert advice help0 -
Hi
I've also had a bad experience and wanted to flag it up so hopefully it can be avoided in future. I worked in Austrlalia for a year a few years ago and decided to try and reclaim my superannuation fund and a tax refund. Over 10 months later, I have received a part payment, but only a fraction of what I was told I would receive and have incurred exorbitant fees for the privilege. To make matters worse, I still had to contact the Australian Tax Office myself and upon doing so discovered how easy it woudl have been for me to carry out the whole process myself without incurring any fees from Taxback. I've pasted the figures they quoted me below. I have received only £549.92. The total estimated refund equates to over £1300 so understandably I am feeling ripped off..
They have now stopped replying to my emails - moved on to the next victim presumably. And they're hard to track down by phone because they use agents in Ireland, Eastern Europe etc and don't publish phone numbers on their website.
Total Estimated Refund : 2,128.72 AUDTaxback.com Fee : 465.74 AUDHandling Fee : 93.00 AUDYour Estimated Refund : 1,569.98 AUD
My advice would be to avoid!0 -
I am not sure why you would ever contact someone with no qualifications in the world of tax? Use qualified people in future.0

These are based in Australia it seems, I actually used one like them myself when I was over there (ironically I'm now a tax adviser but there you go!) although my experience went quite smoothly it appears and 7 years later they haven't chased me so it must have been done and dusted.
The argument that is usually put across is that as a default, WHV holders are taxed as "non-residents", 30% tax and no personal allowance. The agents argue that, in most cases people are "residents" and therefore get the allowance and better tax rates. With hindsight I could have done the claim myself but for me, I was flitting all over the Pacific whilst the process was ongoing so getting the company to do it for me was probably better administration wise.0 -
Sorry to bump this post! My husband worked in Germany for 5 years and has just had a bill through for €1700 for tax owing for 2009 (he was on their equivelant of PAYE). If we owe this, then we will obviously pay it, but we speak minimal German (very ashamed of this!)
Does any one have any recommendations for an agent if Taxback.com are no good?
Thanks!0
