We are a family of 4 and fly to Rhodes in July for first time. Just wondered if anyone knows how much an evening meal will be for a family of 2 adults and 2 kids and beer prices out there. Going for 14 days and I am budgetting £100 a day.... Hope you can help me. Amanda. :j

whereabouts in Rhodes are you going?
We stayed in Lindos last year, and it's probably the most expensive Greek island that we've ever been to.
On other islands, we've found the local wine to be cheap but in a restaurant in Lindos you'd be paying anything up to €15 a litre.
An average bill for evening meal would be around €40 for 2 - but that would be in a rooftop restaurant and be quite fancy dishes (maybe pork fillet stuffed with tapenade & feta cheese, no starters or sweets and 1 litre house wine).
We also found the drinks quite expensive too.
Your best bet is to pop over to Tripadvisor and Holidaytruths - they both have a busy and helpful Rhodes forum and you can ask for recommendations for places to eat & drink in your resort.
On Tripadvisor, there's a really helpful lady called Babs who emailed me a map of Lindos showing all the main bars & restaurants (it's a bit of a maze of alleys) which was really useful.

Rhodes might be a bit more expensive than say Zante - but it is a wonderful island.
In fact we enjoyed it so much when we went in June 2010 that we went back in September!0 -
I agree with previous post that Lindos is expensive, but other resorts near to Lindos are very reasonable.
We have stayed at Pefkos three times now. This is a great resort.
Most places have a specials board outside offering meals at around 7 - 8 Euro and there are a couple of places that offer three course meals at around 11 euro ( surprisingly not bad food)
Lots of good breakfast deals as well, and a fantastic bakery.
This is a great resort - good bus links to rest of the Island (Lindos 5 mins on bus) , loads of good tavernas, beautiful shallow beach, glass bottom boat trips, lovely hotels/self catering ( Matina and Island Blue are the ones i've tried).
Have a look at a website called friends of pefkos for lots of info on Rhodes.
Would spend all my holidays here but am forcing myself to try somewhere else and am going to Rethymnon in Crete this year.0 -
I went to Rhodes last summer with my BF, we were all inclusive but had planned to have a few meals out of our resort as we wanted to visit some of the local restaurants and bars.. however we found that most were pretty expensive =( especially those in Rhodes town =(0

Try to stay away from the tourists areas if you can and look out for the places where you see Greeks eating.
The kids can easily be filled up with things like souvlaki from small, hole in the wall joints and when you eat consider a few plates of mezes rather than a traditional starter, main, dessert meal.
Even on the most expensive islands it is quite possible to east reasonably cheaply if you use some common sense.0 -
Thx for your posts regarding eating out in Rhodes. We are going to Pefkos. We already have full english breakfast at the hotel, so it just a case of paying for a family meal in a restaurant, probably main course and icecreams for the kids along with drinks. I've hear Pefkos is a nice family resort just hope it is quite reasonable!
Anyone been to Pefkos?

Hi Amanda
Pefkos is pretty cheap... Also we found a great cocktail bar which did Happy hour cocktails. There are a couple of really cheap places where we ate out a couple of times.. They were on the main drag and very busy. The food was fine and we got a 1/4 l of wine free per person. I think you will be fine with your budget. The biggest cost was the rip off aircon.... But i had read about this challenged the rep and she then told me where to get a room fan... I picked up this issue on the TA website. I found Rhodes much cheaper than either Kefalonia or Cyprus0 -
Thanks for your reply. Yeah I already know about the air conditioning booked with Thomas Cook and its gonna cost 90 euros for the 2 weeks - got to have it though the kids will be sweating!
What did you think of the Stella in general? Did you ever eat there? Just hope it is clean and decent accommodation.

Hi Amanda
As per previous post by me - yes I've been to Pefkos three times.
Very reasonable resort.
Loads of lovely restaurants. At the far end of the resort is Annixis - very popular with great food and really good prices for everything.
On main street there are a couple of places with deals on for three courses which I believe are very good. Three is also a takeaway called Alexandras on the Beach Road which does pitta gyros to die for.

Lots of restaurants have very good childrens play areas attached.
Beach is narrow and sandy and gently shelving and very clean.
Glass bottom boat trips are very good, and he also does trips to Lindos by Boat.
Taxi to Pefkos costs about 7 euro, but you can also get the bus from the stop outside Pefkos By Night for a couple of euros ( 5 min journey).
Couple of good travel agencies doing tours (these are very reliable with good prices, don't be conned into booking with travel rep). In fact have a good think before using the agencies even because the bus service is good and the buses are reliable and clean. Last year a trip to Rhodes Town on the bus was 10 euro return.
For more info on Rhodes go to the Friends of Pefkos website were you can find info on everything Pefkos that you could ever think of.0 -
Local lager is Mythos which is very nice and they also seem quite fond of Amstel. We saw a ar last year selling large Mythos for 1.50 euros ( prices varied from bar to bar).
Loads of happy hours.0
