kwick fit car insurance problems

i had a car insurence policy with kwick fit last year. the policy expired on the 16th jan this year. they sent me a letter before christmas asking me if id would like to renew the policy for this year if if i would like to, to get in touch. as my car broke down just before christmas and is still not back on the road it is priverty parked off road i thought i would just leave it and let the policy run it course and not renew.

i get a bank statment this week and kwick fit have taken out 83.99 car insurence (it was previousy 60) for this month.

when i phoned them up to quiry this they said that is it company policy to automaticly renew the car insurence policy and cary on with the direct debits.

can anyone tell me if they can do this?? i have had no contact from them since they asked if i would like to renew. i have had no new policy, no new instalment breakdown of the car insurence i did not even ask or request. i wanted to cancel the policy and they have billed me 289 canceletion fee!!

i dont understand how they can do this without any concent from me?

and help would be great thanks:):):)

What did the renewal documentation actually say, word for word?

Many Insurers issue all the new year documentation prior to renewal, so you may have been sent a new Certificate of Insurance, Schedule and premium agreement.

This works on the basis that unless you contact them and tell them otherwise, the policy will be renewed automatically.

If the letter you have received is merely an invitation to renew and requires action on your part, which you have not taken, and there is no new documentation enclosed, I suggest you write a letter of complaint to the Insurer confirming you took no action as you never intended to renew and that any premiums paid were taken incorrectly and should be refunded.

  • i actually did not keep the letter, i threw it away not long ago as i dint think i needed it. it was mearly an invertation of renewal. there was no new policy included or mention of one, no new breakdown of instalments or anything to which may surgest they will be renewing the policy or taking money out of my account ( not even my account, my partners). the advister on the phone surgested the new documentation would have proberbly been lost in the christmas post, which made me laugh!!

thanks for your advice, ill write a letter of complaint and see were i get.
